The Pines
At Tuross Head, south of Moruya, the College has a property with
facilities to accommodate up to 100 students and parents for a number
of purposes. The Pines is owned by the Christian Brothers and operated
by St Edmund's College Canberra. Its primary purpose is for school
camps and retreats. Special interest groups also use it for focused
retreats or simply relaxing weekends. The Pines provides budget
accommodation/conference facility in an idyllic setting in beautiful
Tuross Head.
Tuross is used for retreats, community-building experiences, father-son
camps, holiday experiences, and by various sporting teams. It is
being used and further developed as an off-campus field studies
centre. All boys have the experience of some time at Tuross. All
years except 10 and 12 have an annual camp at the Pines as part
of their studies. This time is designed to give them the experience
of community living and to engage in field studies in the coastal
environment. Students also attend Tuross for retreats as well as
the specialised excursions.
Tuross Head is surrounded by water on three sides; with Coila Lake
to the north, Tuross Lake to the south and the Pacific Ocean to
the east, and the mountains to the west. The area is famous for
fishing (including fresh oysters), water sports and wildlife (particularly
whales and birds). Tuross Head has a thriving shopping village with
nine food outlets ranging from first class restaurants to take-a-way
cafes. The award winning Tuross Country Club has bowling greens
and a golf course.
