Well
the Tuross Music Festival is again over for another year.
I am pleased to say that attendances at the Tuross Head Tavern
on Saturday 17 September 2011 were fantastic for the entire
day. People came to see the mellow tunes and harmonies of
performers such as Island of Real and Plan B with Steve Benic
and the passionate sounds of The Blue Ruins. A strong youth
contingent then moved in for the punk and electro rock and
hardcore rhythms that followed with Break a Leg, Evacuate
the Fallen, Hira Hira, Let me Down Jungleman and others.
The student’s
performances at the club downstairs on the Friday night were
well supported but it was a shame that numbers dwindled and
many missed the strong performance of grunge alternative rock
outfit Spindrift Saga (who included some great music jokes
in their set) and the luscious velvety vocals of Alice Terry.
The Saturday
night downstairs at the club was also disappointing and many
missed the fabulous strong rockabilly and rootsy sounds of
The Damn Fine Gentleman and the other supporting local artists
such as Jampact and Spicy Fruit Chutney.
It is only
hoped that venues such as the club will work better in the
future. I have learnt many things as the organiser this year
and I will endeavour to use these to improve the event for
next year and for years to come. I would love the festival
in years to come to incorporate other venues such as restaurants
and the memorial gardens but at this stage these things are
merely thoughts.
I have
included a list below of the many businesses and individuals
I have to thank for their support and positive input.
Jada Home
Maintenance Systems, The Tuross Beach Holiday Park, Michele
Tyrrell and the Tuross Head Country Club for providing financial
support. The Tuross Motel for housing guests such as The Damn
Fine Gentlemen at extremely reduced rates. Susie Sager. Claudia
and Steve Benic for putting up posters everywhere. Kate from
The Blue Ruins for distributing flyers in Bega! The Coila
Lake Service Station for holding flyers. Denis McQuillan.
Moruya High School for the use of some equipment and instruments.
Sue Hutcheson for doing a wonderful promo for 2EAR FM and
making sure it was given air time!
Smith and
Freeman Architects for printing our wonderful posters. The
Tuross Head Post Office. The Tuross Hardware Store. Rebecca
and Chris from the Tuross Tavern for their amazing support
in hosting the all day Saturday event. To the many artists
who travelled from far and wide. And last but not least Simon
Abbottsmith, Cindy Reed and Ian Traynor for doing all sorts
of things (including putting up with me) and being part of
the organising committee.
I’m
sure there are many others that I have not mentioned and for
this I apologise. I haven’t forgotten that for the music
festival to continue to grow and be successful it relies on
the continued patronage from my fellow Tuross residents as
well as the many visitors we attracted this year from the
Bay and beyond.
Cheers
and thanks again.
Ziggy.
